In its 33rd year, the World Amateur Handicap Championship attracts more than 3,000 golfers from all over the United States and over 25 foreign countries. The event allows anyone 17 years old and above with a certified USGA handicap (or foreign equivalent) to compete in an intense, 72-hole, stroke play golf tournament.
The premier event of its kind, the World Amateur Handicap Championship offers great golf by day and exciting parties and live entertainment at night.
The tournament begins August 29th, 2016 and is played through September 2, 2016 at around 60 Myrtle Beach area golf courses. Participating courses include some of the best in the country: Barefoot Resort's Fazio & Norman Courses, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, True Blue Plantation and Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation. Featured tournament lodging includes the Compass Cove Resort, the oceanfront Grand Shores Resort, luxury accommodations at the Marriott Resort & Spa, the 57-acre vacation complex at Ocean Creek Resort and the Sea Watch Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The World Amateur Handicap Championship features 6 competitive divisions including women's, 49 & under and 70+. Players are divided by handicap into more than 60 flights. Each flight plays a different course each day. After 4 rounds, the winners from each flight advance to Friday's exciting 18-hole Championship Round playoff.
The Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship adheres to USGA rules and handicap requirements. Tournament play is governed by USGA rules, local course rules and the Hard Card.
The World Amateur Handicap Championship Handicap Committee aggressively monitors scores for handicap inaccuracies and takes steps necessary to ensure an equitable tournament.
Players making it to Friday's Championship Round compete using a handicap based solely on a calculation using his or her four-day World Am scores.
One of the most popular features of the World Amateur Handicap Championship is the 19th Hole at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. In addition to being World Am Headquarters, the 19th Hole is a nightly party with great food catered by Myrtle Beach restaurants, drinks served by numerous local bars, live entertainment, golf exhibitions, prize drawings and more. Players head to the 19th Hole each night to unwind after a day of competitive golf and to check the leaderboards that display current flight standings. Admission to the 19th Hole, for each player and a guest, is included in the cost of the entry fee.
