Military Appreciation Days in Myrtle Beach
During May, Myrtle Beach will be hosting a month long celebration to honor the men and women of our nation's military. The 2014 Military Appreciation Days celebration will include free concerts, a 5K Run, Memorial Day Parade, family picnic (free for current military personnel, veterans and their families), a beard and moustache contest, discounts at area restaurants and attractions, kids' activities and a Memorial Day Ceremony.
Come participate in the Military Appreciation Days 5k on May 24th. You can pre-register online or register at Plyler Park between 6 am and 7 am on race day. The race begins at 7:30 am from Plyler Park (it also ends at the park). The event is free for military personnel and veterans. Others may register for $20.
Renowned talk show host and 15 yr military veteran, Montel Williams will be the Grand Marshal for the Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 10:30 am and the route runs down the Boulevard from 27th Ave N to 9th Ave N. After the parade (noon until 2 pm), enjoy a family picnic lunch with live music from the Andrew Thielen Big Band, kid's activities and military exhibits. Winners of the Veterans Beard & 'Stache Beach Bash contest will be determined during the picnic.
The Veterans Beard & 'Stache Beach Bash contest is free to enter. Males entrants must be military veterans, but the women's s faux contest is open to all entrants. Contest categories include: Full Beard, Corporate Beard, Partial Beard, Long Beard, Epic Beard, 'Stache, Long 'Stache and Ladies' Faux. Sign up now for the Veterans Beard & 'Stache Beach Bash contest by sending an email to mbvetbam@gmail.com. Registration will be held on Saturday at the Beard Table (near the concert stage) from 11:30 am until 12:15 pm. The Beard & 'Stache competition starts at 12:30 pm.
On Monday at 11 am, the Grand Strand Patriotic Alliance will be holding the Memorial Day Ceremony on the Convention Center Plaza.
