Myrtle Beach State Park: the ideal spot for fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking and more. Since 1935, a trip to the beach has meant a stay at the Park (with wide open beaches, a fishing pier full of anglers and stories, and campgrounds in the oceanfront woods) for thousands of families across the United States and Canada. With it also being home to one of South Carolina’s last stands of easily accessible, oceanfront maritime forest (featuring a nature center where visitors can learn more about dolphins, sea turtles, and plant and bird life), it’s easy to see why this beautiful state park is a must-see in Myrtle Beach.
Things to do at the park include:
• Fishing: enjoy fishing from the pier of surf fishing for flounder, king mackerel, whiting, trout, spots, Spanish mackerel, drum and blues. The daily fee is $4.50 (for ages 12+) and $2.92 for South Carolina seniors. Pier hours are 6:30am-8pm April through October, and 10am-5pm November through March.• Picnicking: seven picnic shelters are able to be reserved for family or other group gatherings for $25-$38 per day. • Equestrian trails: beach access is available beginning the third Saturday in November and continues through the last day of February for horseback riding. There is a $25 permit for each horse that enters the park. • Nature center: offers saltwater aquariums, live reptiles and interactive natural history displays, and an outdoor wildlife habitat complete with bird feeders, bird houses, a butterfly garden, birth baths and nature sculptures.• Nature trails: the Sculptured Oak Nature Trail allows visitors to see one of the last stands of maritime forest in South Carolina.Park programs include tours, petting zoos, fish printing, kayaking, crabbing, beach sweeps, and much more.
One, two and there bedroom apartments, cabins and villas are available for visitors that are looking to stay overnight. They are located two hundred yards from the beach, and some are completely furnished, heated, air-conditioned, and are supplied with bath and bed linens, basic cooking utensils and TV’s. For those looking to camp out, the campground provides individual water and electrical hookups and is conveniently located near hot showers, restrooms and laundry facilities. Many sites can accommodate RV’s up to forty feet long.
