A trip to Myrtle Beach is something that millions look forward to every year and a day at the beach can be a blast. Everyone tries to be safe but the dangers of the beach can be things you wouldn't normally think. Everyone can have fun at the beach and be safe at the same time by looking out for these hidden beach dangers.

No. 5: Fish hooks

One danger that people rarely think of when playing on the beach is fish hooks. Stray hooks may be out there right under your feet! Fisherman near by can often have a “beached” hook on the beach and not know it or the hook could be from a broken line off by itself.

What you can do:

Keep away from nearby fisherman and always look good around your area, also always be aware of your surroundings in the water as fish hooks and other gear may be floating around in the surf.

No. 4: Near drowning

Often times a swimmer may have a close call, take in some water and make it back to the beach but often times people with too much water in their lungs can drown hours later.

What you can do:

If you have had a close call take it easy and get checked out if you think you have taken in too much water or are having any unusual symptoms.

No. 3: Jelly fish and stingray attacks

Jelly Fish

Anyone who has spent time on the South Carolina beaches knows about jelly fish, they are everywhere in the surf. Jelly Fish stings can hurt for hours but many people can develop an allergic reaction that can be life threatening.

Stingrays

Stingrays have a poisonous barb on their tails that can sting the skin and even kill.

What you can do:

Jelly Fish

Look out everywhere and especially on the beach near the surf. For stings, rub off the bags of toxin that stick to your skin. Use Salt water to cleanse the skin as fresh water can cause irritation.

Stingrays

Same as Jelly Fish, be aware of your surroundings and look where you walk in and out of the water!

No. 2: Foot and leg wounds

Everything from cuts to broken bones are possible from hidden dangers on the beach! Holes and even sandcastles can break bones on the beach so always look where you are walking. Broken shells and glass can cause deep cuts in and out of the water so where protective shoes and look where you are going!

No. 1: Sunburn

Your mother was right when she told you to wear sunscreen and reapply often! Severe burns can cause long-term and immediate harm to your skin and even be life threatening.

What you can do:

Always wear high SPF that is waterproof and reapply regularly. Wear hats and carry umbrellas with you to the beach and stay in the shade.
