On January 16th, Myrtle Beach will host a Fox News sponsored GOP Debate at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Beginning at 9 PM on Monday, January 16th, the event is sure to feature a narrowed GOP field, as several candidates are expected to withdraw their names from contention by January due to slim winning chances and the high cost of continuous campaigning. Fox News Special Report anchor Bret Bair will be moderating the debate. January's debate will not be a first for Myrtle Beach, as the area hosted both a Democratic and GOP debate in 2008. This debate has sparked some debate of its own, as there has been recent confusion over the hosting venue. First reported to be taking place at the Palace Theater, a press release by Fox News announced that the GOP debate would actually take place at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. This came as news to Myrtle Beach Convention Center Manager Paul Edwards who said that the Myrtle Beach Convention Center had a volleyball tournament planned for the 6th of January. For now though it appears as if the volleyball tournament has been rescheduled or moved to make room for the GOP debate. Here is a schedule of the planned GOP debate locations for the state of South Carolina: November 12th, 2011 : Wofford College in Spartanburg at 8 PM January 16th, 2012 : Myrtle Beach Convention Center in Myrtle Beach at 9 PM January 19th, 2012 : Charleston (location and time to-be-determined) Whether you're a fan of politics or just curious about a particular candidate's platforms, be sure to come out to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on January 16th for the GOP debate in Myrtle Beach.
