Grand Strand Beaches - More than just Myrtle Beach

The Grand Strand is more than Myrtle Beach. It is an island of coast that runs from Little River, to the north, near the North Carolina border, to Georgetown, sixty miles to the south. Little River is a small town with a down home flavor the beaches sparkle pristinely and many of the majestic oaks have been preserved to give it a true coastal feel. A bit further South of Little River is the more developed Cherry Grove, home of the Cherry Grove fishing pier. It is known as a great fishing spot with plenty of public beach access. As you come closer to the City of Myrtle Beach you'll pass through North Myrtle Beach that has been expanding rapidly in recent years. Here the trees and the shoreline are still a beautiful backdrop for the sparkling Atlantic Ocean.

Myrtle Beach, the city, is a busy bustling place, with a boardwalk that is the perfect place to stroll and see the ocean. The local restaurants offer plenty of the view and are relaxing treat. Don't let all the business of Myrtle Beach be a surprise to you; one of the favorite places among locals and tourists alike to enjoy the beach is at the Myrtle Beach State Park in Myrtle Beach. The Myrtle State Park is home to a 300 acre maritime forest which by the way, is the last maritime forest on the east coast. It is a great place to enjoy a barbeque in the shade and just look out at the peaceful ocean. The access to the beach is great and it is rarely crowded.

Traveling on Southward is the City of Surfside Beach. The Surfside Beach Pier is popular spot to enjoy a day at the beach, with the pier and great seafood only a few steps away.

Next you will come to Garden City and the Garden City pier with an arcade to keep the whole family busy as you enjoy a break from the sun.

For the best seafood in the south Murrells’s Inlet is just after Garden City. This is the spot to slowly enjoy an exceptional meal and view the intercoastal waterway with marchlands and a different view of the regal Myrtle Beach in the distance.

Huntington Beach state Park is another popular place to enjoy the ocean in Myrtle Beach. The Huntington Beach state park is home to the beautiful Atalaya Castle that offers a mystical place to explore and hear the whispers of times past.

In Litchfield and Georgetown the trees are draped with Spanish moss giving these areas an almost but not quite eerie feeling. The historic and charming buildings of Litchfield are homes to art galleries and cafes today and the downtown area of Georgetown is one of the locals best kept secret.

To give an accurate account of South Carolina’s Grand Strand you need to realize that there are many beaches, each with its uniquely different personality and feel. You can literally spend a week in Myrtle Beach and be somewhere different everyday.
