The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, opened in May 2011, is a giant Ferris wheel right on the beach just a block away from where the old Pavilion once stood. It has created a fair amount of buzz since it began operation.
The SkyWheel is a new addition to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade which opened in 2010. The 1.2 mile long boardwalk is located in downtown Myrtle Beach between 14th Avenue North and 2nd Avenue North. Upon opening, the 196 ft tall SkyWheel became the tallest Ferris wheel on the East Coast and provides a spectacular view of downtown Myrtle Beach.
Riders sit in glass enclosed gondolas and go round and round on a ride that takes you 18 stories high, straight to the top of the Myrtle Beach skyline. At its apex, The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel rises 200 feet above sea level and overlooks the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Each ride is 3 revolutions which typically lasts approximately twelve minutes. The SkyWheel offers a 360 degree view of the Grand Strand and stages light shows every night after the sun sets!
The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is conveniently located near all the Hotels on Ocean Boulevard as well as dining and shopping. For those guests really wanting to travel in style the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel features a VIP Gondola with leather seats!
Tickets for the SkyWheel can be purchased online or in person and the SkyWheel operates all year long!
The SkyWheel is accompanied by a new restaurant and gift shop. Jimmy Buffett's Land Shark Bar & Grill features live music, dancing and like the SkyWheel an amazing view of Myrtle Beach. The Land Shark Bar & Grill joins Jimmy Buffett's two other restaurants on the Grand Strand, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and the Cheeseburger in Paradise Bar and Grill.
